Enjoy the mountains on foot and on skis

Achenkirch is equally popular in summer and winter alike as it is a great place for skiers, boarders, cross-country skiers and Alpine ski tourers. Cross-country skiing fans will find their personally favourite tour on the 60km of cross-country skiing tracks available. A horse-drawn sleigh ride, snowshoe hiking tours through the snow glittering in the sunshine or exciting tobogganing fun make your winter holiday a true fairytale. You simply want to spend time outside and discover the wonderful nature. Christlum area, the family-friendly ski resort providing snow guarantee, is located between 950 and 1,800 meters above sea level and is considered to be the winter sports area in Austria with most snow. Regardless of the natural snow, modern snow-making facilities ensure white and perfectly groomed slopes from November until April. This makes the heart of winter holidaymakers leap for joy!

The small holiday resort at the northern end of lake Achensee. Achenkirch is delightfully situated at the northern bank of lake Achensee at an altitude of 930 m. Thanks to the friendly ambiance, a diverse range of sports including hiking, cycling and golfing can be pursued. You can also choose between all sorts of hotel categories ranging from *****star hotels to farms. Achenkirch is near the German border and can be reached within 15 min by car (no toll fee).

Well-known artists and writers such as Ludwig Steub, Peter Rosegger and Ludwig Ganghofer also spent some time at lake Achensee and enjoyed the special atmosphere of this unique holiday resort. Our guests love the variety of hiking possibilities e.g. to the Unnütz mountain with an altitude of 2075m.

The access to lake Achensee is free for everyone but a bath in Achenkirch can be especially chilling as crystal clear mountain streams run into the lake. An espacially created promontory ensures unlimited bathing fun as the water is a bit warmer at this part of the lake. Achenkirch is also ideal for lots of other sports activities such as tennis, squash, horse back riding, sailing, windsurfing, inline skating, jogging, Nordic Walking, etc.

Agriculture still plays an important role in Achenkirch. At the musem Sixenhof farm, you have the opportunity to discover how farmers lived and worked earlier on. The farm made its first appereance in the chronicles in 1361. Altogether 19 rooms bring farming tools, a blacksmith, a shoemaker and a weaving mill back to life.

Skiing, cross-country skiing and winter romance

Today, Achenkirch is as famous in winter as in summer. It's perfect for skiers and cross-country skiers. Snow is guaranteed (due to snow-making facilities) at the Christlum lifts. The area boasts 9 lifts and 25 km of slopes and was among the first areas to support the new sport snowboarding.
Furthermore, there are 60 km of cross-country skiing trails awaiting you. You will definitely find your favorite winter activity as you can choose between horse-drawn carriage rides, winter hikes, snowshoe tours, tobogganing and much more - a true winter fairy tale.

TOLL-FREE journey from Germany via Achenpass or Bad Tölz!

1) Inntal motorway (toll sticker required!) to the exit Wiesing-Achensee,

continue along the B181 Achensee federal road past Achensee lake to Achenkirch.

2) From Munich to the motorway exit Holzkirchen, Tegernsee lake, Achenpass or Bad Tölz - border,
Achenkirch and on to the other villages.

Calculate Route Now
Jenbach train station (between Innsbruck and Kufstein). Then by public bus*) or taxi to Achenkirch.
Tegernsee train station - bus no 9950 via Kreuth to Achenkirch or by taxi.

*) Guests enjoy free use of the bus between Achenkirch, Maurach, Pertisau, Steinberg and Wiesing (please present your booking confirmation). Ask your host for your free bus ticket for the time of your stay. Guests who stay in Wiesing and purchase a week pass from Wiesing to Maurch will get the ticket price refunded at the tourist office.
